Illustration Friday

under the sea

This week's theme is Under the sea, one of my favorites. Z. says that I always draw this mermaid when the subject is the sea, maybe is right... but I love it.

Sereia

This one is one of my first paintings on tiles. I mixed the two techniques I've learned. R. my teacher said I shouldn't do that but she isn't wright, I like the final result.

I just got some paints for tiles and I look forward to making something with them this week. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, I'm glad I found your blog, it gives me the inspiration to do more work!

Thanks for your comments on my blog, I really dig your tile work, I too am into ceramics and do tons of painting on my thrown and handbuilt pieces. I spray the first layer in underglazes on my bisque ware and then paint my line work and subject in underglazes and lastly spray a clear glaze over the top and fire. I typically fire to cone 5 at home in an oxidation (electric kiln) environment. What is your process and how do you fire your tiles? Also, do you have a trick to keep your tiles from warping in the firing process?
